Texture Shots

These are some of my favorite texture shots, as Anne-Lise likes to call them. I really like to take pictures of visually interesting textures. My recent acquisition of a 55mm macro lens has helped me get many of these shots, as interesting textures appear at all sorts of scales.

At the far end of the beach below the cliffs at Moss Beach, the cliffs are composed of a brittle rock seen here.
Bark of a nice big Ponderosa pine near Glacier Point in Yosemite. Click here for a 1024x768 version you can use as your screen background.
A nice rock formation I saw on the way down from Glacier Point in Yosemite, late in the day.
Some neat looking bark on a tree near our place in Belmont. I noticed the bark while walking with Danny up the hill to our house, and went back to photograph it a few days later. I used Ken's 55mm f2.8 macro lens. I enjoyed using the lens so much that after much pushing by Ken, I bought a 55mm f3.5 macro lens at the San Jose camera fair in April 1999. I didn't like the low depth of field in the above shot, so I went back with a tripod and shot it again, this time using my new macro lens. The result is quite different because of the change in scale and lighting. Click here for a 1024x768 version you can use as your screen background.

I was hunting down textures everywhere I could find them while hiking near Point Reyes with Ken, Danny, and Anne-Lise. This was on the side of the trail, in the woods. Click here for a 1024x768 version you can use as your screen background.

On the same hike as the above shot, I found this old tree.
