Moss Beach Trip 1998

These pictures came from the first roll of film I shot on my new (used) Nikon F3 camera with Nikkor 50mm f1.8 and 85mm f2 lens. Film is Fuji Astia ISO 100 color slides. As with most other photos on my web site, these were scanned using my brother Danny's Nikon Coolscan II.

View of beach from cliffs above. Taken at Moss Beach, north of Half Moon Bay on the California coast. This is our favorite beach in the bay area because it's close to home and because the water is warm and calm. A tripod would have allowed the depth of field I wanted, but I think the result is still quite nice with the fence blurred in the foreground.
Here my brother Danny is resting after a walk around the beach and cliffs at Moss Beach. The sun is setting, giving everything a warm glow that makes you forget how chilly it was. There was just enough light.
This is a tree lined path above the beach at Moss Beach. The obviously planted trees provide a picturesque setting, often used for wedding pictures. A great place to walk when the weather is warm. Here I used my mini-pod to get lots of depth of field.
Half Moon Bay is where most of the pumpkins are grown in the bay area. Around haloween, you see pumpkins everywhere. Here one sits on a post at the entrance to the park at Moss Beach. The setting sun enhances the color.
At the far end of the beach, the cliffs are composed of a brittle rock seen here.
The view west from the cliffs above the beach. The sun is setting over a partly cloudy sky.
Here Anne-Lise is walking on the beach. None of us were in the mood to swim that day, but as usual, Anne-Lise and I got our feet wet and enjoyed the feeling of sand between our toes!
