Palm Stuff

Palm Palm OS I'm currently an application engineer at palmOne. My twin brother Peter also works at palmOne. I used to work at PalmSource. Peter and I were featured in Palm's spotlight.

Smalltalk, etc

Byte Smalltalk cover Java @ Sun ParcPlace/Digitalk I got into Smalltalk at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. I grew to appreciate the more complete, if sometimes overly complex, Smalltalk-80 class library over that of Digitalk's Smalltalk/V. With the introduction of host windows in ObjectWorks, and then emulated host widgets in VisualWorks, I've often yearned for the "good old days". So Disney's Squeak project definitely interests me, although I wish it ran faster. I worked with SELF for my thesis, and have long wished that similar VM technology would make it to Smalltalk. Now that Sun is running the project, maybe we'll see this technology in JavaTM VMs.

Weird Input Devices

Kinesis keyboard Apple Computer I started having RSI problems a while back, so I've experimented with different input devices. I currently use the Kinesis Essential MPC keyboard (which works on both Macs and PCs). I learned how to touch type on it, and now I'm both faster and more relaxed. I have dual Qwerty/Dvorak keycaps, but I haven't taken the time to learn the Dvorak layout yet. I also have a BAT keyboard from InfoGrip, but I prefer the Kinesis. I use an Anir mouse. This mouse looks like a joystick but you slide it around like a regular mouse. The advantage is that you use your whole arm rather than your wrist to move around and you use your thumb rather than your fingers to click. I also have a glidepoint pointing device, but I prefer the Anir.
